It’s not the router, it’s Windows Live that is doing it…MS screwed things up again.

But as you can see without any help or reply. I also opened a ticket through the official support channel with no outcome. They used the “delay until customer gives up” tactic. They succeeded: I gave up and returned the router for a refund.

My recommendation if you have a problem with Netgear, don’t waste your time with their technical support, just return the router and get a refund.

Good follow up on the Netgear forum, I think your going to get bounced around with both Microsoft blaming Netgear and Netgear blaming Microsoft. This is where technology sucks for us as end users.

Use Trillian or Digsby instead of MSN Live. That is the only thing that works for me.

The solution that worked for me:
1. WAN Setup: Disable SPI
2. WAN Setup: Enable DMZ Server and set the IP to any ip in the network range. It is not required that the IP is actually assigned to a system in the network. For example I set it to 192.168.1.9.

I have the same issue with Windows 7 64-bit, Live Messenger 14 and Netgear WNR2000v2 with the 1.0.0.35 firmware.

I tried to disable UPnP, SPI firewall, set the NAT filtering to open but none of it helped.

I have reported it Netgear but I doubt they will/can to provide a solution.

I’d like to report this too, I have a westell modem that will lock up and has to be rebooted to connect to the internet. My actiontec modem does this too.

I don’t know build numbers or firmware versions.

I encountered this issue today also. It was never happened before. My router’s firmware version is V1.0.29_8.0.29NA, and messenger version is 2009(Build 14.0.8089.726). If you find a way to resolve it, please let me know. Thanks very much.
